What are BB Creams? Do They Work for Dark Skin?
I’m sure you’ve noticed the beauty industry’s obsession with BB creams. You can’t walk down the makeup isle at a store or even turn on your television without seeing a commercial touting their many benefits. But what exactly are BB creams and do the benefits apply to dark skin too?
What is a BB Cream?
A versatile skin care/makeup hybrid that promises to do the job of five or six other jars and tubes: moisturizer, primer, sunscreen, skin treatment, concealer, and foundation. We all want great looking skin but don’t want to go through five or six steps just to get there. BB creams offer a way to cut the work in half. The idea of a well-formulated BB cream is that it’s the only product you’ll need after you wash your face.
As previously stated, a good BB cream does the job of several creams all in one. When it comes to skin treatment, many BB creams have:
- Anti-aging components, including peptides and antioxidants such as vitamins A, E, and C
- Moisturizing powerhouses like hyaluronic acid and glycerin
- Ingredients such as licorice and arbutin that help even out skin tone
- Light-reflecting mica to give skin a luminous finish
- Silicone-based ingredients that help smooth the skin, acting much like a foundation primer does
- Effective sun protection
Are There BB Creams for Black Women?
Yes! It might have taken a while, but beauty companies finally got the hint. We want BB creams too! Recently while restocking on my favorite Bobbi Brown foundation, I noticed that her makeup line now offers BB creams in a wide range of colors. My color is called “Dark” and there are two colors with a darker brown hue and several colors with a lighter brown hue. Although the Bobbi Brown BB cream might be a bit pricey (It cost around $44.) Finding one that works for you doesn’t have to break the bank. Almost every major beauty company has a BB cream, and many of them can be found at drugstores for under $10. Why not give it a try? It might be just what you’ve been missing in your beauty regimen.
