SNL Cast First Black Woman In 5 Years, Sasheer Zamata

‘Saturday Night Live’ has finally added a black comedienne to its cast and she beautiful and natural! Sasheer Zamata will be the first female black cast member on the show since Maya Rudolph left five years ago. Zamata, who trained at the Upright Citizens Brigade, went through series of secret auditions as SNL searched for an African-American performer they felt was right for the part. She was one of at least three women to get a final callback. Her first live episode will be Jan. 18th. Drake will be the host and musical guest.

Although I don’t get to watch it often, I’m a fan SNL. I appreciate the fact that the show’s writers, cast and producers aren’t afraid to “go there” when it comes poking fun at sensitive issues. However, I do agree that a black female cast member was long over due and desperately needed. I mean, seriously, how long could Kenan Thompson get away with playing every black woman on the show? I’m sure Oprah, Whoopi Goldberg and Michelle Obama just breathed a secret sigh of relief.

It’s great to see such a talented young woman get such an amazing opportunity. I can’t wait to tune in and watch her blow everyone away!
